CIRCLE LEGACY CENTER YOUTH OUTREACH PROJECT ONE TREE NURTURE NETWORK A YOUTH IN CRISIS OUTREACH PROGRAM
MISSION STATEMENT
The One Tree Nurture Network is dedicated to connecting youth in crisis with people, families and organizations that will foster and mentor those children who do not have families or anyone who cares about them. To be nurtured is a basic human need, and without it we fail to thrive normally. Through this alliance, we will detour troubled youth from imploding and exploding out at a system that has abandoned and abused them.
ONE TREE NURTURE NETWORK
The Circle Legacy Center has established the One Tree Nurture Network to embrace our youth in crisis who lack the loving support necessary to ensure their overall well-being. Our mission is to connect these kids with people, families and organizations that will nurture, support and care about them, and assist them in acquiring social and employment skills. The One Tree Nurture Network is a prophylactic approach to diminish the escalating violence in our streets, and is also a movement towards a healing of the social dysfunction that is consuming some of the youth in our community.
When a child is orphaned, abused and/or neglected, their spirit often becomes broken. They give up hope and become angry at a system that has discarded them. Their anger implodes and sometimes explodes. They may have problems with self confidence, depression and social skills. Most become lost. The statistics reflect that children who suffer abuse and neglect have a higher rate of drug abuse and suicide, and evolve into our future adult criminals. Intervention and a continuation of nurturing are necessary if we are to liberate these kids from life in a quagmire. No easy task, but neither is allowing a child to be destroyed.
Volunteers will support our youth in crisis by connecting with them and supporting their emotional, mental, physical and sometimes spiritual needs. Also, in this program we will help our youth to develop and/or discover their passions, and expose them to various professions to assist them in utilizing what careers they will hold in the future. The volunteers will also encourage an interest in education, nature, and volunteering. Through this nurturing process, these adolescents will gain positive relationships with adults, their peers and their community. A sense of self confidence and well-being will prevail to usher these kids into being happy and healthy adults. Each child saved equals one less suicide, criminal or sexual predator in our society.
Volunteers with the One Tree Nurture Network will be required to obtain a child abuse clearance certificate and attend an orientation with the child and their treatment team (counselors, therapists, etc.). Children in some facilities will require supervised visits. Volunteers are also expected to allow these adolescents to call them a few times a week and to also call them. We ask that a commitment of a least one year, with a goal of keeping these connections for a lifetime.
Another goal is to then go to school districts and identify the students who are bullied and/or considered outcasts. We will assist educational institutions in organizing programs to address these youth in crisis. We will establish peer group education, clubs and mentoring.
The Earth, humanity and all species are interconnected and interdependent upon each other. We are all a component of the tree of life. When any part is damaged, the whole tree is in danger. We must act now to halt the destruction of our youth in crisis. Through the One Tree Nurture Network there is hope.
